Wanju-gun Named 'Outstanding Local Government' in Youth Policy Evaluation by Ministry of Gender Equality and Family

Minister of Gender Equality and Family Award... The Only Winner from Honam

Wanju County in North Jeolla Province announced on the 18th that it was the only local government in the Honam region to be selected as an excellent municipality in the ‘2024 Youth Policy Evaluation’ organized by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and received the Minister’s Award.

This evaluation is conducted annually for 17 metropolitan governments and 228 basic local governments to establish and operate effective and systematic youth policies.

The county received high marks for collecting feedback from youth through youth participation committees, such as the Children and Youth Council, from the early stages of policy development and actively reflecting these opinions in its policies.

In addition, the county provided opportunities for youth to directly contribute to policy formation by incorporating policy proposals from youth policy forums into youth participatory budgeting. The continuous increase in children and youth participatory budgets was also highly praised.

County Governor Yoo Heetae said, “This award was made possible thanks to the active participation of youth facilities and local youth,” adding, “We will continue to carefully consider local conditions and the needs of youth to ensure they can grow up healthy and safe, and we will spare no effort in our support.”
