Dong-A University Graduate School of Education Supports 'Book Cafe Visiting Schools' with Busan Seobu Cheong

Major in Reading Education, Elementary School Humanities Reading and Discussion Education

The Reading Education Major at Dong-A University Graduate School of Education (Head Professor Lee Guk-hwan) has successfully completed the operation support for the Busan Western Office of Education's ‘2024 School Visiting Book Cafe’ program.

This program, which provided humanities reading and discussion education to selected elementary school classes under the jurisdiction of the Western Office of Education, was conducted from May to November.

The Reading Education Major at Dong-A University Graduate School of Education dispatched current students and graduates as instructors to about 30 classes of 5th and 6th graders in 9 elementary schools, conducting reading discussion classes on the theme of ‘Sustainable Environment.’

Professor Lee Jae-hyung stated, “The current 2022 revised curriculum emphasizes the ability to actively respond to uncertainties in future society caused by climate and ecological environmental changes,” and added, “It is meaningful that local elementary students were able to recognize ecological and environmental issues and consider alternatives through reading.”

Graduate student Kim Gyu-chul (3rd semester, Reading Education Major), who participated as an instructor in this program, also said, “Designing the reading program and teaching elementary students provided an opportunity to further develop and enhance my expertise in reading education,” and expressed his aspiration, “I will strive to help many young people in our region cultivate humanities literacy and creative thinking skills through reading education.”

Established in 2014 as the first program of its kind in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam region, the Reading Education Major at Dong-A University Graduate School of Education celebrated its 10th anniversary this year and continues to produce outstanding reading education experts in the region every year.
