Gwangju Science Museum Successfully Hosts 'Twins and Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn' Event

Observation of Gemini Meteor Shower

The 'Gemini and Jupiter-Saturn-Mars-Venus' celestial observation event held at the National Gwangju Science Museum concluded successfully.

According to the Gwangju Science Museum on the 16th, the Gemini meteor shower occurs when the Earth passes through the debris field scattered by an asteroid in space, and it can be seen around this time every December. This event was held at the Geojingi Rest Area in the Yeongsan River Waterfront Park, which is sufficiently dark and has a wide view despite being in the city.

Participants experienced meteor shower observation, including constellation explanations by celestial observation experts. They then had the opportunity to observe the moon, stars, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn decorating the night sky through telescopes and binoculars.

The National Gwangju Science Museum operated the 'Moon Viewing and Star Viewing' event during the first full moon of the lunar new year, the Chuseok celestial observation event, and a special supermoon observation event this year. Additionally, through the monthly 'Starlight School' and 'Night Sky Observation Captain' astronomy education programs, many citizens were able to enjoy stars and science.

In the new year, they plan to conduct astronomy education and special observation events for total lunar eclipses, sunspot and solar flare observation events, and other astronomy programs.
