Jinju-si Strengthens Emergency Preparedness Following Impeachment Approval

Jinju City in Gyeongnam announced on the 16th that immediately after the presidential impeachment motion was passed, it held an emergency executive meeting and is mobilizing all city resources to fully respond in order to stabilize people’s livelihoods and minimize local confusion.


Since the declaration and lifting of emergency martial law on December 3, the city has held joint meetings with representatives of local economic organizations, social groups, traditional market representatives, and executives of the Chamber of Commerce starting from the 5th, proactively responding to stabilize livelihoods in various sectors so that citizens do not become psychologically discouraged.

Additionally, to prevent damage to small and medium-sized enterprises, small business owners, and self-employed individuals who are the core of the local economy, the city held meetings with local financial institutions to support low-interest loans and conducted on-site visits and discussions with export companies to actively discover policies that benefit local businesspeople.


The city plans to do its best to help citizens overcome the current chaotic situation and spend this winter safely and comfortably by promoting early execution of next year’s budget considering the special circumstances, strengthening prevention and inspection of incidents and accidents such as winter fires, cold waves, and heavy snow, and reviewing cold wave countermeasures for vulnerable groups.


Meanwhile, Jinju City is conducting special inspections to establish strict public service discipline among civil servants and is operating the Livelihood Stabilization Task Force, consisting of 3 teams and 15 divisions formed on the 9th, in a substantial manner to alleviate residents’ anxiety caused by the impeachment political situation and local economic downturn, maintaining an emergency mobilization system.


Mayor Jo Gyu-il stated, “Our city will focus on steady city administration as usual to prevent any unrest in the local community due to the current situation,” emphasizing the city’s active role in minimizing the impact of this situation on citizens’ daily lives. He added, “I hope citizens will carry out planned activities as usual to prevent the local economy from shrinking at the year-end and New Year, and demonstrate mature civic consciousness by showing great interest and cooperation in revitalizing our local economy.”
