Handonghun to Hold Press Conference Tomorrow... Focus on 'Position Statement' (Comprehensive)

Sudden Cancellation After "Scheduled for Today" Report
Kwon Seong-dong: "We Have No Choice but to Transition to Emergency Committee"

Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the People Power Party, is expected to express his position on his future course of action through an official press conference on the 16th.

On the 15th, the People Power Party announced that Han would hold a press conference at 10:30 a.m. on the 16th. It is anticipated that Han will reveal his stance on his resignation from the leadership position at this event. Although there were reports that Han would meet with reporters on that day to make a statement, the People Power Party clarified that "those reports are false."

Han is facing pressure to resign within the party. At the previous day's People Power Party lawmakers' meeting, a majority of members demanded Han's resignation, holding him responsible for the passage of the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol, but Han firmly stated, "I will continue to perform my duties."

With all five elected Supreme Council members of the People Power Party having expressed their intention to resign, the party is on the verge of transitioning to a emergency committee system, and there are predictions that Han may begin to "hold out." Article 96 of the party's constitution stipulates that if four or more of the elected Supreme Council members and youth Supreme Council members resign, an emergency committee must be established; however, as long as Han does not resign, he can exercise authority such as appointing the emergency committee chairperson.

On the same day, Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader, told reporters at the National Assembly, "All five Supreme Council members have resigned, and according to the party constitution and regulations, we have no choice but to transition to an emergency committee system," adding, "I think Han will deeply consider his position." If Han announces his intention to resign, Kwon will assume the role of 'acting party leader.'
