Park Pil-soon, a member of the Gwangju City Council (Democratic Party of Korea·Gwangsan-gu 3), announced on the 15th that a policy debate titled "Is the Gwangcheon Area Special Transportation Measures Okay as They Are?" will be held at 2 p.m. on the 16th in the large conference room on the 4th floor of the City Council.
The debate was organized to review the detailed contents of Gwangju City's "Gwangcheon Area Special Transportation Measures" and to conduct in-depth discussions on effectiveness and budget securing plans.
At the debate, Lee Chang-ho, head of the Transportation Policy Research Office of Gwangju City, will present an explanation of the "Gwangcheon Area Special Transportation Measures." Following this, experts from various fields, including Oh Seong-hoon, senior research fellow at the Architecture and Space Research Institute; Park Yong-nam, director of the Sustainable City Research Center; Choi Dong-ho, professor at Gwangju University; Eom Ji-yeon, director of EOD Design Institute; and Min Man-ki, co-representative of the Green Transportation Movement, will participate in the discussion.
Councilor Park said, "Although transportation measures involving astronomical budgets have been announced, there has been insufficient prior discussion and debate on this matter. Starting with this debate, we will carefully examine the necessity of the project, the appropriateness of the budget scale, and funding methods to prevent waste of taxpayers' money and ensure effective measures are prepared."
Meanwhile, Gwangju City announced the "Gwangcheon Area Special Transportation Measures" last September, which includes the Sangmu-Gwangcheon Line, BRT, urban express buses, cooperative buses, Gwangjucheon Eco Bridge, Gwangcheon Green Road, and the construction and expansion of bypass roads.
