Handing a Scarf to Lawmaker Kim Sang-wook, Who Holds a Solo Protest Supporting Impeachment
Kim Sang-wook: "I'm Not a Traitor to Conservatives but Someone Who Protects Conservatism"
Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, stated on the 14th, "Today, we must all think only of the Republic of Korea and its people. I will do the same."
On the morning of the same day, Han met with reporters on his way to the National Assembly and said, "I have already clearly conveyed my intentions to our people and lawmakers." The National Assembly will hold a plenary session at 4 p.m. to vote on the second impeachment motion against President Yoon. The first impeachment motion on the 7th was dismissed due to the absence of People Power Party lawmakers.
On this day, Han also encouraged Kim Sang-wook, a lawmaker from the same party who was holding a one-person protest in favor of impeachment in front of the National Assembly main building, by handing him the scarf he was wearing. Kim explained, "(Han) encouraged me as he came up," adding, "He said, 'I understand your feelings,' and gave me the scarf he was wearing before going inside."
On the morning of the 14th, Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the People Power Party, wrapped his scarf around Assemblyman Kim Sang-wook, who was holding a solo protest in favor of President Yoon Seok-yeol's impeachment, as he arrived at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul. Regarding concerns that he is "currently receiving many attacks calling me a traitor," Kim responded, "I believe I am not a traitor to conservatism but someone who protects conservatism." He further pointed out, "The most important value of conservatism is to uphold the constitutional order and liberal democracy," and criticized, "It is Yoon Seok-yeol who has directly damaged that and divided conservatism."
Earlier, Han himself shifted to support the impeachment motion immediately after watching President Yoon's statement on the 12th, saying, "I believe it has become even clearer that President Yoon can no longer perform his duties as president." On the night of the 12th, he also urgently ordered the convening of the party's Ethics Committee to consider expulsion or removal of President Yoon from the party. According to the People Power Party's constitution and regulations, disciplinary actions such as expulsion or recommendation to leave the party can be taken after a resolution by the Ethics Committee and approval by the Supreme Council in cases such as "when a member commits acts extremely harmful to the party" or "when violations of current laws, party constitution, regulations, or ethics rules cause obstacles to party development or result in loss of public support."
