Reduced Processing Time by 78%... Lowered Carbon Emissions by 40%
Hyundai Steel announced on the 12th that the carbon reduction heat treatment technology jointly developed with Hyundai Motor Company has obtained New Excellent Technology (NET) certification.

When this technology is applied to the mass production of automotive differential gear parts, it can achieve mechanical properties equivalent to the existing spheroidizing heat treatment technology (a heat treatment method that converts carbide particles inside steel into a spherical structure), while reducing the process time by 78% and carbon emissions by about 40%. The differential gear is a device that distributes driving force to the left and right wheels to enable smooth rotation.
Hyundai Steel was responsible for technology design and optimization of mass production heat treatment facilities, while Hyundai Motor Company handled the proposal of technology ideas and evaluation of component manufacturing technology.
This technology is scheduled to be applied to differential gear parts for vehicles such as the Palisade, Tucson, Sonata, and Avante, which will enter mass production starting next year. It is expected that the new heat treatment technology can be further expanded to various vehicle parts, heavy equipment, machine tools, and other industrial products in the future.
A Hyundai Steel official said, "We have proven our excellent technological capabilities by obtaining NET certification for the independently developed heat treatment technology," and added, "We will expand the application of this technology to various materials beyond differential gears."
