Announced on the Morning of the 12th... Second Time Since 2016
Donald Trump, the President-elect of the United States, is reported to be selected as Time magazine's 'Person of the Year.'
On the 11th (local time), the U.S. political media outlet Politico reported this citing anonymous sources. If Trump is chosen as Time's Person of the Year, it will be his second time since his first victory in the U.S. presidential election in 2016.
Time will officially announce the Person of the Year on the morning of the 12th through its homepage. To commemorate his selection, Trump is scheduled to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on the morning of the 12th.
According to Politico, other candidates for Time's Person of the Year include Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate this year; Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge; Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla; and Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel. Last year, Time selected American pop star Taylor Swift as the 2023 Person of the Year.
Time stated, "We do not disclose who has been selected before the annual Person of the Year announcement."
Politico reported, "Trump has long been obsessed with appearing on magazine covers, especially Time's Person of the Year. Thirteen former U.S. presidents, including President Joe Biden, have been selected as Time's Person of the Year."
Meanwhile, Time announced Caitlin Clark of the NBA as Athlete of the Year, British singer Elton John as Icon of the Year, and Lisa Su of AMD as CEO of the Year.
