The National Election Commission (NEC) stated on the 6th that "there was no removal of internal materials by the martial law troops" during the martial law period. The NEC criticized the entry of the martial law troops into the NEC as "unconstitutional and illegal."
In a statement released that day, the NEC said, "After the martial law was declared on the 3rd, about 300 martial law troops entered the National Election Commission building and other locations," adding, "The martial law troops confiscated the mobile phones of five night duty staff members, controlled access to the building, and conducted security operations, occupying the Gwacheon NEC office for about 3 hours and 20 minutes." The NEC stated, "Such occupation of the NEC, an independent constitutional institution, by the martial law troops is a clear unconstitutional and illegal act without any basis in the Constitution or law."
Regarding the damage situation, the NEC said, "So far, there has been no removal of internal materials by the martial law troops," but added, "We will continue to carefully verify and inspect for any potential damage in the future."
Regarding this incident, the NEC urged, "The relevant authorities should fully disclose to the sovereign people the purpose and grounds for the martial law troops' occupation of the NEC building, the agency responsible for realizing popular sovereignty, and take appropriate legal measures accordingly."
