Opening Ceremony of 'Ukyung Seongwan' for Modernized Learning and Living Environment
National Mokpo University (President Song Ha-cheol) announced on the 6th that it held an opening ceremony for the newly renovated Gosi Dormitory (U-gyeongseon Hall) on the 4th.
The event was attended by President Song Ha-cheol, Woo Seung-ha, President of Shinan Beach Hotel, representatives of successful candidates from the Gosi Dormitory, faculty members, and enrolled students. The ceremony proceeded in the order of a progress report on the opening, congratulatory speeches, ribbon-cutting, and facility tours.
Mokpo University's U-gyeongseon Hall is a building (2 floors, total floor area 867㎡) constructed and donated by Shinan Construction Industry in 1995 for examinees preparing for civil service and public office.

Mokpo University invested 976 million KRW to improve the facility by △ installing elevators △ replacing and expanding heating and cooling systems △ improving living spaces such as male and female student rooms, restrooms, and shower rooms △ establishing seminar rooms, computer rooms, and caf?-style lounges for male and female students △ and upgrading the entrance asphalt. Additionally, water purifiers and refrigerators were installed on each floor to enhance students' convenience.
Since its opening, U-gyeongseon Hall has produced over 431 successful candidates in various fields including lawyers, accountants, judicial scriveners, tax accountants, labor attorneys, appraisers, public officials, and public institutions. Every year, about 40 current students and graduates reside there to develop their capabilities, with an average pass rate of 45%.
Ma Ji-eun (graduating February 2024), who is preparing for the civil service exam at U-gyeongseon Hall, said, “I am very happy to be able to live in the newly renovated U-gyeongseon Hall. Through my time here, I want to achieve my goals and become someone who can contribute to the public service community.”
President Song Ha-cheol stated, “Through the remodeling of U-gyeongseon Hall, we have been able to provide a modern and comfortable learning and living environment to support the employment and public office advancement of local talents. Based on this, I hope students grow into talents who contribute to society and the region.”
Meanwhile, Mokpo University operates a ‘Civil Service and Professional Qualification Preparation Class’ for students preparing for civil service and professional certifications. Applications for the ‘2025 First Half Civil Service and Professional Qualification Preparation Class Selection’ are being accepted until the 9th, and candidates will be selected through a fair process including written exams and interviews.
