Former Jeonnam Education Superintendent Kim Dae-jung: "Martial Law Situation... Grateful to Citizens Who Protected Us"

Kim Dae-jung, Superintendent of Education for Jeonnam Province, evaluated President Yoon Seok-yeol's declaration and lifting of martial law, stating, "Citizens united to block the martial law troops and armored vehicles, and the steadfast democratic system protected democracy from unjust violence."


On the 5th, Superintendent Kim wrote on his Facebook, "A bewildering day has passed. Watching the unbelievable martial law situation and the tense moments, I could not hide my confusion," adding, "Without even a moment to sigh in relief, I spent a hectic day discussing and reviewing with executives to ensure smooth academic operations."

Superintendent Kim said, "Witnessing the brutal violence by an illegitimate power group that mercilessly trampled democracy, I thought of our students who must live in the future," and added, "My heart was devastated at that time. I am grateful to the citizens who protected the future of the children with their whole bodies."


He continued, "Watching those suffocating moments, I reaffirmed that democracy is not learned from textbooks but can be protected through action and practice. However, I am very sorry that our students and youth had to witness such moments."


He especially said, "Walking to work early in the morning, I was lost in various thoughts. Thinking of our students and youth, I felt devastation, gratitude, and regret," and stated, "Symbiotic education is not education learned through words, but education through action and practice."


Superintendent Kim emphasized, "An ecological environment where nature and humans coexist, a global civil society living equally without discrimination and prejudice, and a future society that upholds human dignity?this is the future society we must create."


He then pledged, "I will definitely establish symbiotic education through action and practice," and vowed, "By practicing symbiotic education, I will help students grow into confident protagonists."
