The Samsung Global ChatAI fund is the first in Korea to focus on investing in software companies and their value chains utilizing generative artificial intelligence (Chat AI). It was launched in May 2023.

It has been recognized as differentiated from existing AI funds, which have a high proportion of investments in hardware companies, by focusing intensively on software companies using Chat AI from the time of its launch. It attracted attention for its ability to selectively invest in Chat AI service companies, moving away from the typical investment style that concentrates on mega big-tech companies like the well-known 'Magnificent 7.'

In particular, most overseas investment exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are currency-exposed. However, since the Samsung Global ChatAI fund is a public fund that includes both currency-exposed (UH) and currency-hedged (H) types, it offers the advantage of allowing investors to choose based on future exchange rate trends.

The Samsung Global ChatAI fund includes Microsoft, the parent company of OpenAI, which is well known among software companies showcasing generative AI technology. In addition to Adobe and Salesforce, the portfolio mainly contains next-generation AI core companies boasting high profitability and unique technology, such as Palantir, AppLovin, ServiceNow, and Manhattan Associates.

Among the core investment stocks in the fund, the stock prices of Meta, Palantir, and AppLovin have risen significantly over the past year, proving the investment value in generative AI software companies.

Since the public release of OpenAI's conversational AI, Chat GPT, the generative AI service sector has rapidly reached the stage of popularization. Especially in creative fields such as writing, art, and research, the implementation of AI technology is expected to bring significant innovation to corporate productivity by combining diversely with the existing software industry. Due to this innovation, the market potential and investment opportunities for generative AI are expected to increase sharply.

Jang Hyun-jun, manager at Samsung Asset Management, said, "I believe the full-scale expansion of the Chat AI service industry starts now," adding, "We will continuously select core beneficiary companies centered on software companies leading the next-generation AI market to build a differentiated portfolio and strive to consistently achieve higher returns."
