To select the top 10 news, the district conducted an online vote for 15 days from November 15 to 30. A total of 8,248 Jungnang-gu residents and staff participated in the voting.
As a result of the vote, ‘Passing the Preliminary Feasibility Study for the Myeonmok Line Light Rail Transit! Resolving a 20-year-long wish!’ took first place with 4,934 votes. The Myeonmok Line urban railway is an underground light rail (subway) line starting from Sinnae-dong in Jungnang-gu, passing through Mangu-dong and Myeonmok-dong, and connecting to Cheongnyangni in Dongdaemun-gu. With the passage of the preliminary feasibility study, transportation conditions in the Sinnae, Mangu, and Myeonmok areas, which have been weak in public transportation, are expected to improve significantly, greatly enhancing accessibility to major downtown areas of Seoul.
In second place, with 4,178 votes, was ‘Seoul’s representative festival! Successful hosting of the ‘Jungnang Seoul Rose Festival’ visited by 3.03 million people.’ The 2024 Jungnang Seoul Rose Festival, which adopted the slogan ‘The Most Beautiful Festival in Seoul,’ implemented three main strategies: ‘Safe Festival,’ ‘Clean Festival,’ and ‘Friendly Festival,’ to increase visitor satisfaction. As a result, the number of visitors increased by more than 400,000 compared to the previous year, reaching 3.03 million, and the direct economic effect amounted to 24.3 billion KRW, greatly contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.
Following that, ‘Jungnang, the Mecca of Education, Allocates and Supports 12 Billion KRW for the 2024 Education Expense Subsidy, Ranking 2nd in Seoul’ ranked third with 2,987 votes. The district has increased education expenses from 3.8 billion KRW in 2018 to 12 billion KRW this year, more than tripling the amount.
This is an increase of 2 billion KRW compared to the previous year and ranks first in Seoul in terms of financial independence. The district plans to increase the amount by 2 billion KRW annually to secure 16 billion KRW by 2026, supporting education expenses at the highest level in Seoul.
