Baek Hyun-jin, a member of the People Power Party, stated on the 4th, "I will protect democracy together with the sovereign people," and said that she is waiting for the earliest return flight while on a business trip to Nepal.

On the same day, Baek said through her social network service (SNS), "Amid extreme confrontation between the ruling and opposition parties, the National Assembly has fallen into chaos due to irrational operation that held the people hostage. However, I declare that under no circumstances will I condone any political suicide without justification that threatens the lives and safety of the people and damages the values of the Constitution of the Republic of Korea."

She added, "Anyone who triggered and abetted this situation must bear the appropriate responsibility," and said, "The President must provide a detailed explanation to the people regarding this incomprehensible situation."

Currently, Baek is in Nepal on a business trip related to a standing committee. She reportedly received news of the martial law while in a meeting with the Minister of Culture and others regarding the establishment of a Korean language school in Nepal.

Baek said, "I immediately canceled all my schedules and watched the situation in Korea throughout the night," and added, "Although I feel utterly devastated, I will stay fully alert and protect the people so that such concerns do not arise again."
