Leading Innovation in Joseon Marine Industry... Steps Toward the Future

Jeonnam Daebul Industry-Academic Convergence Center at Mokpo National University (President Song Ha-cheol) announced on the 4th that it won three Korea Industrial Technology Promotion Agency Director Awards at the ‘2024 National Industry-Academic Convergence District Performance Exchange and Project Lab Competition’.

Jeonnam Daebul Industry-Academic Convergence Center (Director Jo Doo-yeon) was selected as an excellent company, excellent Confessor, and excellent executive at the ‘2024 National Industry-Academic Convergence District Performance Exchange and Project Trap Competition’ held on the 28th of last month at STX Resort in Mungyeong, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by the Korea Industrial Technology Promotion Agency and the Korea Industry-Academic Convergence District Council, receiving the Korea Industrial Technology Promotion Agency Director Award.

The event was prepared to share excellent achievements and cooperation cases of industry-academic convergence districts nationwide and to share innovative results created through industry-academic cooperation.

About 230 people attended, including officials from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Industrial Technology Promotion Agency, local governments where industry-academic convergence districts were established, industry-academic convergence district officials, participating company executives and employees, and professors and students from participating universities.

At the performance exchange meeting, achievements made by 17 industry-academic convergence districts and participating companies nationwide were shared. In particular, the only Confessor (industry-academic cooperation dedicated expert) activity operating nationwide was recognized for its excellent cases, presenting and awarding success stories that brought about innovative results.

At the ‘Project Lab Competition’ conducted as an industry-academic cooperation curriculum, participating students presented their ideas and research outcomes. The Mokpo National University Project Lab received a special award for the project titled ‘Structural Analysis and Vibration Analysis of Motor Frame for Electric Propulsion Ships.’

Director Jo Doo-yeon said, “Jeonnam Daebul Industry-Academic Convergence Center serves as a bridge connecting the past and future of the shipbuilding and marine industries, and will establish itself as a specialized institution for digital transformation and workforce development in shipbuilding and marine industries, serving as a starting point to promote technological innovation and growth of companies.”

Jeonnam Daebul Industry-Academic Convergence Center has achieved many results by establishing a win-win cooperation system with shipbuilding and marine-related companies in Jeonnam, providing various advanced technology education needed in the industrial field, solving technical difficulties, and fostering customized talents for companies, thereby enhancing competitiveness through technological innovation in key industries and nurturing specialized personnel.
