Kim Joo-hyung and Im Sung-jae will participate in the Hero World Challenge (total prize money of $5 million) hosted by the "Golf Emperor" Tiger Woods (USA).
The tournament will be held for four days starting from the 5th (local time) at the Albany Golf Course in the Bahamas (par 72, 7,449 yards). It is hosted by the Woods Foundation. Although it is not an official PGA Tour event, world ranking points are at stake. Twenty top-ranked players in the world will compete over four days in a 72-hole event to determine the rankings. The winner of the Hero World Challenge will receive $1 million (approximately 1.4 billion KRW), and even the last place, 20th, will earn over $150,000 (about 200 million KRW).
The 20 players consist of the winners of the four major championships and the "fifth major," The Players Championship, the top 11 players in the world rankings, last year's tournament winner, and invited players. This year's tournament features world number one and defending champion Scottie Scheffler (USA), Ludwig Aberg (Sweden), Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay (both USA), among others. Justin Thomas (USA), Jason Day (Australia), and Nick Dunlap (USA), who won the American Express as an amateur for the first time in 33 years last January, are invited players. Woods will not participate due to poor physical condition.
Kim Joo-hyung and Im Sung-jae will start the first round in the same group at 1:30 AM KST on the 6th, the first day of the tournament. In 2022, their first appearance at this event, Im Sung-jae finished 8th and Kim Joo-hyung finished 10th. Im Sung-jae will return to the field after about a month since the PGA Tour's Zozo Championship in October. Kim Joo-hyung will compete again after the DP World Tour (formerly European Tour) Genesis Championship held domestically during the same period.
