Yoon Appoints Choi Won-ho, Former Secretary for Research and Development Innovation, as Chairman of the Nuclear Safety Commission

Appointment of Lee Myung-soon and Cho So-young as Vice Chairpersons of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission

President Yoon Suk-yeol approved the appointment of Choi Won-ho as the chairman of the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission on the 29th, the presidential office announced.


Chairman Choi previously served as the Director of Mega Public Research Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, a senior expert at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and the Secretary for Research and Development Innovation at the presidential office.

The presidential office explained, "Chairman Choi is the right person to lead the enhancement of safety and reliability in future nuclear industries, including nuclear power plant management and operation, and new nuclear power plant construction, based on his extensive policy experience in nuclear technology research and development, work at the International Atomic Energy Agency, and his expertise as a Ph.D. holder in mechanical engineering."


President Yoon also approved the appointment of Lee Myeong-soon and Cho So-young as vice chairpersons of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.


New Vice Chairperson Lee Myeong-soon is a legal professional who was commissioned as a prosecutor at the Seoul District Prosecutors' Office in 1996 and has accumulated experience in criminal and planning fields, having served as head of the Criminal Division 5 at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, chief of the Yeoju branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office, and head of the Criminal Division at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office.


New Vice Chairperson Cho So-young has been a professor at the Pusan National University School of Law since 2004 and was the first female president of the Korean Association of Public Law.


The presidential office stated about Vice Chairperson Lee, "Based on her investigation experience to eradicate corruption and her abundant experience managing current issues, she is expected to actively implement anti-corruption and corruption prevention policies and contribute to creating a more transparent society."


It added, "Vice Chairperson Cho is the right person to dedicate herself to listening to the voices of socially vulnerable and struggling citizens and resolving their difficulties, based on her activities to protect and enhance citizens' rights through the Personal Information Protection Commission, Police Investigation Review Committee, and her profound knowledge of the constitution."
