A story about a man who started receiving messages every day from a stranger after changing his phone number has attracted attention.
On the 29th, an online community shared the story of a man named A and the KakaoTalk messages he received, which were recently posted in a thread. A said, "After changing my phone number, my KakaoTalk would ring every morning, but I waited without saying anything. It was a message from a mother who seemed to have lost her son first," adding, "It was uncomfortable to just keep watching, and thinking it must have been hard for her, I cautiously replied."
According to the revealed KakaoTalk messages, on the 21st, A received a message from a woman named B saying, "Son, today is a day I miss you." Since then, B sent daily messages full of longing to A, such as "I wish you would come back to my arms," "Please be my son again even if you are reborn," "Today I’m eating doenjang jjigae, which our son liked. Aren’t you jealous?" and "You appear in my dreams every day. Will you come out again today?"
Having only read the messages, A sent his first reply on the 26th after receiving a message saying, "I love you, son, watch over me from the sky." He sent a KakaoTalk message saying, "Yes, mother. I’m doing well. Please don’t worry too much. I’m gaining weight and exercising well, so don’t skip meals or be heartbroken. You were the best mother. I love you too, mom." About 40 minutes later, B replied, "I was so surprised I just stared blankly. Thank you for speaking warmly without seeing me as a stranger," and asked, "Is it okay if I keep sending KakaoTalk messages like this? I really miss my son. It’s a sorry request, but it gives me strength."
A readily agreed, and B suggested, "If it’s okay, I’d like to find time to have a meal together. I want to at least repay you." A, who lived in Incheon, later shared a review saying he met B and her husband in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, braving a heavy snowfall the next day. He began, "It snowed a lot, so I met them earlier than the scheduled time. The mother came with the father and hugged me as soon as we met." He explained, "It seems she kept sending KakaoTalk messages to me because the phone number her son used when alive is the same as the one I’m currently using. I heard her son passed away in an accident two months ago."
Additionally, A said he visited the columbarium with B and her husband and then had a meal together. He said, "Although the two are different in build from their son, they laughed a lot, saying their smiles are similar, and cried a lot," adding, "They thanked me for coming such a long way and for making time, and we hugged each other for about five minutes while crying. I gained a mother and father through a small connection."
Afterward, A also shared B’s review. B said, "Time has passed, and it’s already winter. It’s also the season our son liked the most," and lamented, "(My son) was at the stage of dressing up and just beginning to understand the world, but sadly went to heaven first, so it’s very hard and exhausting."
The story spread across various online communities, touching many people. Netizens expressed empathy and encouragement, saying, "Tears are welling up. It’s truly a beautiful story," "I hope your son rests peacefully in a good place," and "I’m crying from the morning."
