Daegu Jungbu Police Station Ranks 1st Among 259 Police Stations Nationwide in 'Crime Prevention Competition'

Daegu Jungbu Police Station (Chief Superintendent Kim Gi-dae) announced on the 27th that it was selected as the top outstanding station by winning first place at the "1st Crime Prevention Competition" hosted by the National Police Agency.

This year, for the first time, the National Police Agency held a heated crime prevention competition at the Police Agency building in Migeun-dong, Seoul, inviting 100 civilians and 20 internal and external experts as audience evaluators, targeting 259 police stations nationwide. At this event, Daegu Jungbu Police Station took first place and was selected as the top outstanding station.

Daegu Jungbu Police Station presented on three topics and achieved first place with a significantly higher score among the 10 excellent police stations nationwide that presented at the event.

At Daegu Jungbu Police Station, the Dongseongno Rodeo Club Alley in downtown Daegu used to experience a surge in reports of group violence and crowd congestion every weekend, making it difficult for a single precinct to handle. However, the Crime Prevention Diagnosis Team of Jungbu Police Station meticulously analyzed crime types and occurrence times and, since April last year, has proactively deployed riot police officers every weekend (Saturday and Sunday) during early morning hours (00:00?04:00) to prevent crimes such as group violence in advance. As a result, group violence completely disappeared, and reports of violence decreased by more than 25%, receiving positive feedback.

Additionally, with the recent construction of new apartment complexes and the rise in relational crimes such as domestic violence, securing the golden time has become an urgent priority. To address this, the entrance door passwords of apartment complexes with more than 300 households are stored on a single RFID chip, allowing police officers to avoid delays at the entrance door.

In fact, on October 21, a stalking incident occurred where a woman was hanging from an apartment balcony bleeding and calling for help. Using this system, the golden time was secured, the victim was safely rescued, and the suspect was urgently arrested, which also earned high marks.

Furthermore, last year, the CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) project was implemented around Gyeseong Middle School, and this year around Jeil Middle School, transforming old and dark areas into bright, safe environments, which helped reduce school violence and received positive responses.

Kim Gi-dae, Chief Superintendent of Daegu Jungbu Police Station, said, “We will continue to scientifically analyze crimes that cause residents anxiety and respond proactively so that residents can live safely and peacefully.”

Meanwhile, as a result of the selection, Daegu Jungbu Police Station scored 63.4 points, ranking first nationwide, followed by Seoul Gwanak Police Station (59.4 points) in second place, Ulsan Nambu Police Station (54.9 points) in third, Busan Haeundae Police Station (46.5 points) in fourth, Jeonbuk Iksan Police Station (46.1 points) in fifth, Seoul Gwangjin Police Station (45.1 points) in sixth, Gyeongnam Jinju Police Station (41.1 points) in seventh, Chungnam Asan Police Station (33.8 points) in eighth, Gyeonggi Northern Ilsan Dongbu Police Station (31.5 points) in ninth, and Gyeonggi Southern Anyang Manan Police Station (28.7 points) in tenth.
