Democratic Party "We Will Impeach Audit Board Chairman Choi Jae-hae"

Reason: Inadequate Audit of Official Residence and Non-submission of National Assembly Audit Materials
Opposition Plans to Approve 'Chae Sang-byeong National Investigation' on the 4th of Next Month

The Democratic Party of Korea announced that it will submit an impeachment motion against Choi Jae-hae, the head of the Board of Audit and Inspection, on Monday, December 2. This will be pursued together with the impeachment report on three prosecutors, including Lee Chang-soo, the head of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office. On December 4, the party plans to approve the implementation plan for the 'Chae Sang-byeong National Assembly Investigation.'

On the afternoon of the 28th, the Democratic Party held a party meeting at the National Assembly and passed these matters. After the meeting, floor spokesperson Noh Jong-myeon told reporters, "We plan to report the impeachment of Choi Jae-hae, head of the Board of Audit and Inspection, on December 2," adding, "It was decided to pursue this together with the prosecutors' impeachment." He continued, "The reasons include various issues related to the presidential residence audit, and there is a high possibility of violating the Act on the Testimony, Inspection, and Records of the National Assembly due to failure to submit materials during this national audit process."

On the 1st of last month, the Democratic Party had announced that it was considering impeachment against Choi, head of the Board of Audit and Inspection, and Kim Yong-hyun, Minister of National Defense, on grounds of perjury and violation of the National Assembly Act. On the day the impeachment report on Choi is submitted, the Democratic Party also plans to report impeachment motions against three prosecutors of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office: Lee Chang-soo, Chief Prosecutor; Cho Sang-won, 4th Deputy Chief; and Choi Jae-hoon, Head of the Anti-Corruption 2nd Division. This is based on their decision not to prosecute the stock manipulation case involving Kim Geon-hee, wife of the president.

Additionally, the Democratic Party announced that it will approve the implementation plan for the 'Chae Sang-byeong National Assembly Investigation,' which is being promoted to investigate the truth behind the death of a Marine Corps soldier, on December 4. The party submitted the list of members for the special committee on the national investigation to National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik the day before. The People Power Party decided to leave the decision on whether to accept the national investigation to its floor leadership.
