They received the special award at the recent competition held at the Gyeongju Lahan Hotel, hosted by the Korea Radioactive Waste Agency, with participants from Sejong University, Chosun University, Kangwon National University, Catholic University of Pusan, Ajou University, and others.
This competition was held to review the excellent project achievements of universities participating in the Korea Radioactive Waste Agency's High-Level Radioactive Waste Management Specialized Workforce Training University Support Project and to enhance the professional capabilities of university students.
The Pukyong National University student team conducted field surveys in the research area to collect structural geological data and presented research results interpreting the development history of faults, receiving excellent evaluations.
In particular, they established a research exchange system with graduate student teams (Choi Hoseok, Kim Goeun, Oh Yubi) and external experts to plan the project and systematically analyze the fault development history and high-stress fields of the research area, presenting results recognized as foundational data for site investigations of high-level radioactive waste disposal facilities.
Pukyong National University, led by Professor Kim Youngseok (Environmental Geoscience), was selected for the High-Level Radioactive Waste Management Specialized Workforce Training University Support Project and is conducting related research with a total project budget of approximately 560 million KRW.
