This project was established as part of the "Korea-US STEM Youth Special Exchange Initiative," agreed upon by the heads of state of both countries last year to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korea-US alliance. It provides outstanding domestic STEM youth with scholarships for exchange programs at American universities and opportunities to experience advanced industries and technologies.

Kim will study as an exchange student at San Francisco State University in the United States during the spring and fall semesters of next year and will receive a scholarship of $18,000 (approximately 25 million KRW) from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Kim said, "After completing the exchange program, I want to enter graduate school to conduct in-depth research on neuroscience and gene editing technology," adding, "Ultimately, my goal is to contribute to the development of Alzheimer's treatments at a global bio-pharmaceutical company."

Choi Seungnyeon, Director of the International Education Center at Sahmyook University, said, "The selection of this scholarship recipient demonstrates our university's competitiveness in STEM education and the students' spirit of challenge," and added, "Sahmyook University will continue to provide support so that students can thrive on the global stage."
