"Gwangju Establishes Legal Foundation as an 'AI Hub'"
Jo In-cheol, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (Gwangju Seo-gu Gap), announced on the 25th that the "Artificial Intelligence (AI) Basic Act" recently passed the National Assembly Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting and Communications Committee's bill review subcommittee with bipartisan agreement, signaling a green light for its enactment.
The "Artificial Intelligence Basic Act," which includes key provisions from the "Act on Fostering the AI Industry and Securing Trust," spearheaded by Representative Jo, focuses on promoting AI technology development and utilization, strengthening ecosystem competitiveness, and establishing new standards to protect citizens' human rights and interests.
In particular, the act specifies the designation of a dedicated agency and the basis for administrative and financial support requested by Gwangju City, thereby securing a legal foundation for the "Gwangju AI Complex" to establish itself as a national AI hub.
Representative Jo explained, "Including the designation of a dedicated agency and support basis for revitalizing the Gwangju AI Complex in the AI Basic Act is a significant achievement in securing Gwangju's future growth engine," adding, "It will serve as an important foundation not only for Gwangju's AI industry but also for strengthening South Korea's AI technology competitiveness."
He also emphasized, "I will do my best to ensure that the AI Basic Act passes the Legislation and Judiciary Committee and the National Assembly plenary session within this year," and stressed, "I will continue to support Gwangju to establish itself as the national center for AI industry development."
