Regarding the acquittal of Democratic Party leader Lee Jaemyung in the first trial of the 'perjury instigation case' on the 25th, Jang Donghyuk, a lawmaker from the People Power Party, stated, "It is logically difficult to accept that Kim Jinsung was fined for perjury, but Lee Jaemyung was acquitted of instigating perjury."
In a phone interview with Asia Economy on the same day, Jang said, "If it were not for Lee Jaemyung's request, Kim Jinsung would have had no reason to commit perjury," and added, "I think it would be difficult for anyone to accept this as common sense."
The 33rd Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Kim Donghyun) acquitted Lee, who was indicted without detention on charges of instigating perjury, stating, "There is no proof of the criminal facts in the indictment, and it is difficult to see intent of perjury instigation."
Meanwhile, Kim Jinsung, the secretary of the late former Seongnam Mayor Kim Byungnyang, who was indicted as the main perpetrator of perjury instigation, was found guilty of some perjury charges and fined 5 million won.
Jang said, "If neither perjury nor perjury instigation was established, that would be understandable, but it is hard to find any motive or reason to commit perjury," and argued, "It is logically difficult for me to accept that perjury was acknowledged for a person who would have no reason to commit perjury unless instigated by Lee Jaemyung, but Lee's instigation of perjury was not recognized."
Meanwhile, regarding the verdict, Lee Jaemyung told reporters, "I thank the court for restoring truth and justice," and added, "Compared to the difficulties faced by the people, my hardships are insignificant, and I will do my best to improve the lives of the people. I want to tell the government and the ruling party to pursue politics that save people, not politics that destroy."
