On the 21st, the UK’s Independent reported, "China's Pizza Hut is serving customers pizza topped with fried frogs." The media included a post by food trend expert and consultant David Henki on X (formerly Twitter).
Henki wrote, "Different countries and cultures prefer different types of protein, and Pizza Hut is offering frog-topped pizza for a limited time in China, with frogs being the trend." He also mentioned, "This pizza was released in collaboration with the gaming company Dungeon & Dragons and is called 'Goblin Pizza,' named after one of the popular game characters."
In response to the article, a foreign netizen commented, "This pizza is a serious crime," while another asked, "Why ruin pizza like this?" Other netizens said, "If the pizza under the frog is okay, I wouldn't be angry," "I could throw this straight into the trash," and "The fried frog legs look delicious. Tearing the frog leg meat and putting it on the pizza might taste quite good." Chinese local netizens reacted with comments such as "Just looking at the picture makes me feel disgusted and nauseous," "Eating this might give me nightmares that night," and "It’s so repulsive that I don’t want to eat it."

The Independent noted that Pizza Hut is not the only place in Asia to introduce controversial menu items. In 2020, McDonald's China offered a sandwich topped with two slices of Spam and crushed Oreo cookies, and in 2022, Domino's Pizza Japan released a pizza topped with fried fish, thin potatoes, basil, tartar sauce, tomato sauce, and lemon slices.
