The Beautiful 'Hwahoongcho Forest' Where Flowers Bloom All Four Seasons
Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 21st that it received the Excellence Award in the “2024 Outstanding School Forest Contest” organized by the Korea Forest Service in the creation category.
The “School Forest Creation Project” is a program that creates forests within school spaces to provide students with beautiful scenery and support various educational activities through ecological spaces.

The Korea Forest Service selects and awards a total of six 'Outstanding School Forests' each year through the contest, divided into categories such as creation, utilization, and post-management.
Since 2004, Wando-gun has steadily promoted the school forest creation project and has established a total of 16 school forests to date. This year, Hwahung Elementary School’s “forest” participated in the contest and won the honor of receiving an award.
The Hwahung Elementary School forest, created in 2022, received high praise for its beautiful scenery with flowers blooming throughout all four seasons and its harmonious integration with existing trees. Hwahung Elementary named the forest “Hwahung Future Forest” through a naming contest involving students and operates programs such as “Caring for My Tree.” Students gain valuable experience in caring for nature and learn the importance of forests through education with forestry experts.
The county plans to invest 700 million KRW in urban forests next year to promote various projects including school forests, forest landscaping, and complex forest landscape projects.
Park Eun-jae, Director of the Forest Recreation Division, stated, “We will continue to pay attention to the utilization and post-management of school forests and strive to provide an environment where students can enhance their ecological sensitivity.”
