Strict Review After Application Submission
To Encourage Marriage and Childbirth

Gyeongbuk Province and Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation (President Kim Nam-il) announced on the 20th that they will recruit 15 couples (30 people) of newlyweds and couples planning to marry residing in Gyeongbuk to support a Japan cruise trip at the end of this year.

This "International Cruise Tourism Support for Newlyweds and Couples Planning to Marry" project is part of Gyeongbuk Province's key policy, the "War on Low Birthrate," and was planned to promote marriage and childbirth as well as to revitalize Gyeongbuk's international cruise tourism.

The travel period is from December 24 to 29, lasting 5 nights and 6 days. The Costa Serena, an Italian-flagged mega cruise ship that can accommodate about 3,000 people, is scheduled for boarding.

The cruise will depart from Pohang Yeongilman Port and stay in Hokkaido, Japan (Otaru and Hakodate), where various onboard couple programs will be held.

Applicants must be newlyweds residing in the Gyeongbuk area (married after January 1, 2020) or couples planning to marry (by December 31, 2025), and 15 couples (30 people) will be selected. Priority will be given if both individuals reside in Gyeongbuk.

The application deadline is November 25, and applications can be submitted via a Naver form.

Those selected for the "International Cruise Tourism Support for Newlyweds and Couples Planning to Marry" will receive support for round-trip cruise boarding fees, meals, and port sightseeing.

A representative from Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation said, "Usually, traveling to Hokkaido, Japan by ship for 5 nights and 6 days through a travel agency costs about 2.5 million KRW per person. However, this newlywed cruise trip requires a personal expense of about 120,000 KRW per person, including departure tax and onboard tips, and the corporation covers the remaining costs. If there are many applicants, priority will be given to newlyweds who have just married."

President Kim Nam-il stated, "This cruise tourism support project is an important step to overcome the low birthrate issue and to revitalize Gyeongbuk's international cruise tourism industry. We hope that newlyweds and prospective couples will create beautiful memories and build a precious future together through this opportunity."
