Seoul Metro (President Baek Ho) announced that it conducted the ‘2024 Love Kimchi Sharing Event’ on the 19th and delivered kimchi to 100 vulnerable households residing in Yongdap-dong, Seongdong-gu.
This event, held in collaboration with the Yongdap-dong Community Service Center and the Yongdap-dong Community Security Council, was promoted as part of social contribution activities to help marginalized neighbors ahead of the severe cold wave.
On the day of the event, about 40 people gathered at Yongdap Tosok Park next to the Seoul Metro headquarters in Seongdong-gu, including 15 Seoul Metro employees, 10 Yongdap-dong Community Service Center staff, and 15 local volunteers. Despite the cold weather, the volunteers carefully made kimchi using 360 heads of napa cabbage.
The event was also attended by Jang Kyung-ho, Head of Performance Department at Seoul Metro, Lee Eun-kyung, Head of Yongdap-dong, and Nam Yoo-sook, Chairperson of the Yongdap-dong Community Security Council.
The kimchi, packed into 100 boxes, was delivered to 100 vulnerable households in the area, including elderly living alone and low-income families residing in Yongdap-dong. Seoul Metro also donated 5 million won to the Yongdap-dong Community Security Council.
After the kimchi-making, participants shared lunch with local residents, fostering communication. At this gathering, Assistant Manager Ahn Hyo-ik of Seoul Metro said, “It was my first time making kimchi myself, so I was a bit clumsy, but I was able to feel once again how much warmth shared together can be a great strength. I hope the sincere hearts of the volunteers are conveyed through the kimchi.”
Seoul Metro annually practices volunteer work and sponsorships to revitalize the local economy, including kimchi sharing, purchasing traditional market gift certificates, and holding communication meetings between residents and market merchants.
Baek Ho, President of Seoul Metro, said, “I hope the kimchi made together with neighbors living in Yongdap-dong will be delivered to those who truly need help and provide a small support for winter preparations. Seoul Metro will continue to fulfill its role as a model public enterprise leading warm companionship by realizing the values of regional coexistence and sharing.”
