Regional Innovation Talent Development 'Seobusan MICE School' Graduates Its First Foreign Student

Professor Kim Jong-eun: "Aiming to Support the Growth of Busan's MICE Industry from a Foreigner's Perspective"

The WB (Seobusan) MICE School education program, launched to cultivate MICE industry experts in the Seobusan area, produced its first foreign 'graduate' following the completion of domestic young Korean participants in January this year.

However, all 22 individuals who completed this specialized training program?designed to attract and activate global events such as corporate meetings, incentive tourism, exhibitions, fairs, and events in domestic regions?are Chinese international students studying in Busan.

The WB MICE School expert course is a unique project nationwide that trains foreign international students as MICE personnel in South Korea. Since its launch on September 20, Chinese trainees have been diligently studying every Friday at Silla University in Sasang-gu, Busan, and received their certificates on the 15th.

Professor Kim Jeong-eun, director of the WB MICE Hub Project Team and faculty member of the Department of Hotel and Medical Tourism Management at Silla University, stated that all 22 applicants completed the course with a 100% graduation rate.

The project team explained that, based on advice from Busan MICE industry experts and considering the characteristics of Chinese international students, the curriculum emphasized incentive tours within the MICE field and provided education on the MICE industry grounded in the features and tourism resources of Busan and Seobusan.

This curriculum attracted attention by holding a contest for proposals that re-suggested products considering Seobusan’s characteristics from a foreign perspective.

Professor Kim Jeong-eun said, “We received five product proposals from five teams and plan to coordinate with the Busan City Tourism MICE Team to commercialize these products.”

The WB MICE School proposal contest was held on the 15th, the last day of the course, in Room 518 of the Silla University Business Building.

Professor Kim Jeong-eun, who led this education program, explained the background of the MICE School operation: “This was the first attempt to approach MICE from a foreign perspective to lay the groundwork for developing Seobusan into an international city environment, including projects like the Gaduk New Airport.”

Professor Kim also emphasized, “Along with nurturing innovative talent in the Seobusan MICE region, we are currently operating Unique Venues?event spaces that showcase local culture and characteristics?which is also a meaningful process. We are dedicating efforts to establish the Seobusan MICE platform for the sustainable growth of Busan’s MICE industry and to create a growth ecosystem for related industries.”
