Coffee Chat Session for Job Seekers Held
Hyundai Card, which emphasized a 'business transformation' into a tech company, recently held a tech conference. During the approximately three-hour conference, Hyundai Card publicly unveiled its AI platform 'Universe,' which successfully exported to Japan, for the first time.
According to Hyundai Card, the '2024 Hyundai Card Tech Talk' was held at 6 p.m. on the 5th at Hyundai Card UNDERSTAGE in Itaewon, Seoul. This was the first-ever tech conference in Hyundai Card's history, where the company shared the know-how and future blueprint it has gained over the past decade as it transformed into a tech company for about three hours.
The conference was also the first public unveiling of Universe, the AI platform recently exported to SMCC, one of Japan's top three credit card companies. Universe is a data science-based customer hyper-personalization AI platform developed by Hyundai Card. Its core feature is the ability to analyze users' payment data and classify them in detail according to individual behaviors and tendencies. It goes beyond the conventional unified user classification system based on gender and age, allowing focus on user groups with specific behavioral patterns.
Lee Seung-yong, Executive Director of the AI Platform Business Division, explained how Universe gained recognition for its excellence in the global market. SMCC carefully decided on the adoption of Universe through dozens of meetings during a six-month Proof of Concept (PoC) process from February to August. SMCC highly evaluated Universe's versatility based on its superior technology and is expected to expand its application not only to advanced hyper-personalized marketing but also to major affiliates or partners such as banks and shopping. Lee also mentioned that countries in North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East are reviewing the adoption of Universe.
Park Min-jae, Executive Director of AI Platform Development, is highlighting the data science of Universe and Hyundai Card from various angles at the '2024 Hyundai Card Tech Talk' held on the 5th. Hyundai Card
Shin Dong-hoon, Executive Director of the AI Business Division 2, emphasized, "Marketing based on AI and data science has proven to be more efficient than marketing relying on human intuition. Hyundai Card's AI technology has rapidly advanced and currently plays a practical and direct role in enhancing business performance with the most sophisticated AI technology."
Following this, Park Min-jae, Executive Director of the AI Platform Development Division, highlighted the security excellence of Universe technology. He said, "Customer data, collected and used with prior consent, is encrypted, allowing connections only between client companies and absolutely no external access. The trust in AI platforms like Universe is secured through global certifications, ensuring high scalability in the future."
There was also a session introducing Hyundai Card's journey of transforming into a tech company. Kim Jae-wan, Executive Director of the AI Business Division 1, said, "Since declaring 'Digital Hyundai Card' in 2015, Hyundai Card has devoted everything to strengthening data science and AI capabilities, resulting in the valuable achievement of advanced data science. The answer to the question 'How can we better understand customers?' was ultimately AI. We have conducted experiments using AI over the past several years, and Universe is the platformization of those results."

At the venue, a digital job consultation session called 'Coffee Chat' was also held. Participants gathered in five booths to sit in circles and resolve their questions about digital jobs and recruitment. According to Hyundai Card, the AI and data science workforce was initially only about 20 people but now amounts to approximately 500, which is one-quarter of the total workforce.
The tech conference, held for the first time since Hyundai Card's founding, was packed with AI engineers eager to learn Hyundai Card's know-how as well as job seekers seeking related information. The 300 seats prepared according to the venue size were quickly filled, and some participants even stood throughout the sessions until the event ended to listen to the lectures, creating a remarkable scene.
Kim Tae-jun (pseudonym) said, "I participated in this event because I wanted to hear directly what Hyundai Card means by data science, and it was a time to glimpse the data science blueprint that Hyundai Card envisions."
Lee Ji-sang (pseudonym), who applied for a cloud development position at Hyundai Card, said, "I was curious about what kind of work Hyundai Card's data and cloud architects do, and through this opportunity, I was able to have job consultations and talk with actual field professionals, which made me want to join even more."
A Hyundai Card official said, "This Tech Talk was a valuable event that confirmed the high interest in Hyundai Card's AI and data science. In particular, it was meaningful in that it not only publicly introduced Universe for the first time but also simultaneously conducted recruitment consultations with prospective employees who will be responsible for the future of Digital Hyundai Card, encompassing Hyundai Card's past, present, and future."
