Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Byeong-no) announced on the 16th that it has achieved the great feat of receiving the 'Excellence Award' again this year following last year in the '2024 Wildfire Prevention and Response Evaluation' held recently in Yeonggwang.
The wildfire prevention and response evaluation, hosted by Jeollanam-do, assesses 22 cities and counties within the province based on seven indicators across four areas: wildfire prevention, wildfire prevention publicity, wildfire preparedness and response, and wildfire prevention cooperation level.
The county actively promoted wildfire prevention activities such as crackdowns on illegal burning and holding wildfire prevention campaigns, and made efforts to improve wildfire response capabilities through training of firefighting personnel and drills with related agencies, resulting in winning the Excellence Award in this evaluation.
On the same day, in the 'Jeollanam-do Wildfire Ground Suppression and Integrated Command Competition' hosted by Jeollanam-do and organized by the Jeonnam branch of the Korea Wildfire Prevention Technology Association, Damyang-gun demonstrated outstanding abilities in efficient strategy and situation command, receiving the Excellence Award in the integrated command category.
The competition, held with the participation of about 250 people from 22 cities and counties in Jeollanam-do, was conducted by evaluating the integrated command category, which assesses rapid deployment of command vehicles and wildfire suppression operation planning capabilities, and the ground suppression category, which evaluates the operation of wildfire mechanization system equipment such as wildfire suppression vehicles and temporary water tanks.
Kim Eun-ju, head of the Damyang-gun Forest and Garden Division, said, “This award is the result of active cooperation from residents, close cooperation with wildfire-related agencies, and proactive prevention activities and training by public officials. We will use this award as a stepping stone to do our best to protect forests during this year’s fall wildfire caution period.”
