Free Lecture for 60 Adults
Exploring Artworks and Addressing the Climate Crisis
The Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 15th that as part of the 2024 Goyang Reading Festival year-round event, the lecture series "Humanities Opening the Morning" will be held at 10 a.m. on the 27th and December 4th at the Goyang City Hwajeong Library.
This lecture series consists of two themes that provide citizens with cultural insights and environmental awareness.
The first lecture, centered on author Kang Min-ji's book Blue Art Museum, explores the cultural and historical meanings of "blue" in artworks. It aims to shed new light on the works of famous painters. The lecture will revisit the works of renowned artists such as Claude Monet and Vincent van Gogh, explaining the messages each era and artist conveyed through the color blue.
The second lecture, based on environmental journalist Kim Ki-beom's book The Era of Climate Adaptation 2030 is Coming, will delve deeply into the climate crisis and environmental issues. It will particularly emphasize the importance of "mitigation" to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and "adaptation" strategies to cope with climate change, offering practical measures that can be implemented in daily life.
This lecture series is free of charge and open to 60 adults, with prior registration available through the Goyang City Library Center website.
A library official stated, "We hope that citizens will gain new perspectives on art and environmental issues through this lecture and have an opportunity for deep reflection."
