Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 15th that it has carried out improvements to aging facilities and installed convenience facilities at 22 administrative welfare centers and residents' autonomy centers within the city throughout this year.

In the case of the administrative welfare centers in Idong-eup and Baegam-myeon, Cheoin-gu, the city completely remodeled the old restrooms, replacing toilets, sinks, plumbing, waterproofing, tiles, and installing electrical equipment as well as heating and cooling systems. Since there were no elevators, it was inconvenient for elderly and disabled people to use the stairs at the Dongbu-dong administrative welfare center in Cheoin-gu and the Pungdeokcheon 2-dong administrative welfare center in Suji-gu. Elevators and other facilities for the disabled were installed to make it easier for vulnerable pedestrians to use. To this end, the city invested a total of 1.671 billion KRW, including 400 million KRW from national and provincial funds.

Facilities at residents' autonomy centers were also improved. In Seonong-dong and Dongbaek 2-dong, Giheung-gu, spaces were created to exhibit artworks such as paintings and calligraphy, and exercise equipment was expanded at the residents' autonomy centers' gyms in Dongbaek 2-dong and Seongbok-dong, Suji-gu, using operating income from the centers.

In Wonsam-myeon and Pogok-eup, Cheoin-gu, multipurpose rooms were newly established so that students could smoothly attend classes at the residents' autonomy centers, and the multipurpose room in Guseong-dong, Giheung-gu was completely remodeled. In Seonong-dong and Sangha-dong, Giheung-gu, waterproofing and tile work were done on shower room floors to prevent leaks.

Improvement projects for citizen safety were also carried out. In Giheung-dong, Giheung-gu, the entrance doors, windows, LED lights, and flooring of the residents' communication space inside the aging Gonse 2-tong village hall were replaced. In Sanghyeon 2-dong, Suji-gu, the safety fence height on the stair railing connecting the ground to the attached parking lot was raised to ensure the safety of vulnerable pedestrians such as children and the elderly.

Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin City, said, "Since administrative welfare centers are public facilities closest to citizens' daily lives, we worked hard to renovate them neatly so that residents can use them conveniently," adding, "We will continue to listen to voices from the field and resolve inconveniences in daily life to improve the quality of life for citizens."
