Strengthened Crackdown on Illegal 'Smoking and Cooking' Activities Along the Ridge Trail for One Month Until the 15th of Next Month

The Jirisan National Park Jeonnam Office of the Korea National Park Service (Director Kim Eun-chang) announced on the 13th that it will restrict access to certain trails for 31 days from the 15th of this month to the 15th of next month to prevent wildfires and protect natural resources.

The restricted sections include 26 trails totaling 126.4 km, such as Nogodan to Jangteomok (23.8 km) and Manbokdae to Seongsamjae (5.3 km), which have a high risk of wildfire. Open sections include 27 trails totaling 111.1 km, such as Seongsamjae to the summit of Nogodan (5.4 km) and Hwaeomsa to Munenggi (7 km). The status of restricted and open trails can be checked on the Korea National Park Service website.

The Jirisan National Park Jeonnam Office will also strengthen enforcement against illegal activities such as smoking and cooking within the national park to prevent wildfires.

Violations will be subject to fines under the Natural Parks Act: up to 500,000 KRW for violating access restrictions and up to 2,000,000 KRW for prohibited acts such as smoking.

Lee Sang-won, Head of Disaster Safety at the Jeonnam Office, stated, “If you plan to visit Jirisan National Park, you should check the trail restriction status in advance,” and urged, “Please use the designated open trails and immediately report any wildfire sightings during the relevant period to help protect Jirisan from wildfires.”
