Reduction of Student Fares and Abolition of Sectional Fares to Ease Residents' Financial Burden
Goryeong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, will reduce the fares for rural buses starting from the 22nd.
This fare reduction, the first ever implemented in Goryeong-gun, was decided through the review of the County Comprehensive Transportation Development Committee to alleviate the transportation cost burden on residents and promote the use of public transportation by applying the standard fare of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk joint living area to the region.
The general bus fare will remain at the current 1,500 won, while fares for middle and high school students will be reduced from 1,200 won to 850 won, and for elementary school students from 800 won to 400 won.
Additionally, the distance-based section fare will be abolished, and a transfer discount will be introduced, establishing an urban-type fare system where passengers can travel to their destination by paying only the base fare.
This fare reduction particularly emphasizes significantly reducing the transportation cost burden on parents raising children. It is expected that residents' transportation convenience will further increase once the Daegu metropolitan area wide-area transfer system is implemented in the future.
County Governor Lee Nam-cheol expressed his expectations, saying, “Public transportation is the foundation of the local economy and a key pillar of residents' mobility rights. This fare reduction will help ease the burden on residents struggling due to the economic downturn and serve as an opportunity to elevate the level of transportation welfare in our county.”
