Icheon-si Completes Construction of Living Resource Recovery Center in Moga-myeon

Recycling Waste Daily Processing Capacity Tripled
Financial Revenue Expected from Sale of Sorted Items

Gyeonggi-do Icheon City announced on the 12th that it has completed the construction of the Living Resource Recovery Center located at 611-1 Sogari, Moga-myeon, and has officially begun its operation.

A total of 13.8 billion KRW was invested in the newly built Living Resource Recovery Center. Previously, the city conducted a feasibility study in 2019 and prepared a residents' opinion survey and installation plan in 2021. Construction began in August last year and was completed last month.

The city expects that the operation of the center will significantly improve the shortage of resource recycling processing facilities. Until now, Icheon had no public recycling facilities and had been outsourcing processing to private facilities. However, the processing capacity was limited to 10 tons per day, and there were issues with increasing outsourcing costs.

With the completion of the center, the city will be able to efficiently separate glass, cans, plastics, and other materials through mechanical sorting using gravity, density, and optical sorters, increasing the average daily recycling waste processing capacity up to three times. Additionally, it is expected that the city’s financial revenue will increase through the sale of sorted recyclable materials.

The completion ceremony was attended by Kim Kyung-hee, Mayor of Icheon, Song Seok-jun, Member of the National Assembly, Park Myung-seo, Chairman of the Icheon City Council, and local community leaders. Mayor Kim said, "The opening of the center will be an important milestone marking the first step toward resource circulation."
