Donald Trump, the President-elect of the United States, has reportedly chosen Kristi Noem, Governor of South Dakota, as the next Secretary of Homeland Security, CNN reported on the 12th (local time) citing sources.
Governor Noem is expected to play a key role in the deportation of illegal immigrants, as announced by Trump, alongside Stephen Miller, former White House senior advisor who is set to be appointed Deputy Chief of Staff, and Tom Homan, former Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, who has been named the 'Border Czar.'
CNN stated that Governor Noem will become the head of a massive agency overseeing U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Secret Service, and more. It also explained that by selecting Governor Noem, Trump is placing loyalists in charge of government agencies he prioritizes.
Governor Noem is a loyalist who was once considered as a running mate (vice presidential candidate) for Trump. However, this was derailed after a memoir was published that included an account of her shooting a hunting dog. At the time, Noem argued that it was to demonstrate the decisiveness to do one of the most terrible things in life if necessary.
