Gangdong Central Library Opening Accelerates... Gangdong-gu Secures Additional 2.4 Billion KRW in Special Grants

Gangdong-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced on the 12th that securing an additional 2.45 billion KRW from the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Special Adjustment Grant (Special Grant) on the 7th has given momentum to the preparation for the opening of the ’Gangdong Central Library‘.


Gangdong Central Library will be the largest library in Gangdong-gu and the second largest among Seoul’s autonomous districts, spanning from four basement floors to three above ground, with a total floor area of 10,275㎡ and housing over 370,000 volumes. It will be located within the ’Olympic Park Foreon‘ apartment complex, the largest in the nation, which residents will start moving into this month, and is scheduled to open in July next year.

With the injection of this special grant, it is expected that the swift preparation for the opening will contribute to providing residents with a high-quality knowledge and cultural space as well as smooth public library services.


Meanwhile, the district has secured a total of approximately 9.7 billion KRW in special grants this year to accelerate local projects. These include park maintenance projects such as the creation of walking paths in Cheonho-dong Children’s Park and neighborhood parks, aesthetic improvements around Amsa History Park Station, construction of the Godeokcheon Riverside Vitality Hub, replacement of hazardous street trees, and removal of sediment from rainwater pumping stations to prepare for floods, prioritizing support for local livelihoods.


District Mayor Lee Soo-hee stated, “We will continue to accelerate local projects that residents can feel through securing external funding. We will do our best to communicate with residents on the ground and meet the changes and expectations they desire.”
