Introducing the Nation's First Metropolitan AI 'Smart Gangwon Urban Safety Service'

Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin-tae) announced on the 12th that it will participate in the '2024 Korea Government Expo' held at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju Metropolitan City from the 13th to the 15th, operating the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province exhibition hall.

The slogan of this expo is 'Government Innovation for Tomorrow, Collaborative Digital Platform Government.' Through this expo, Gangwon Province plans to showcase its innovative government services and outstanding cases.

Under the exhibition theme 'Changing the World! Smart Gangwon!', Gangwon introduces the AI-based metropolitan 'Smart Gangwon Urban Safety Service' system. This system integrates and links closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage operated by 18 cities and counties and related organizations within the province to the provincial office for the first time nationwide, sharing information in real-time with fire departments, police, military units, etc., enabling rapid response in case of incidents.

In particular, by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technology, it contributes to quickly protecting citizens' lives and property during emergencies such as missing person accidents, breakwater falls, and wildfires. This system is a representative case of government innovation and has the potential to spread nationwide.

Additionally, during the expo period, the Gangwon exhibition hall will host various events and experience programs to promote Gangwon to visitors and officials from other provinces. Through this, it plans to widely publicize Gangwon's excellent government innovation cases and smart technologies.

Kim Myung-seon, Deputy Governor of Gangwon Province, said, "We are very honored to operate the Gangwon exhibition hall at the 2024 Korea Government Expo, which is held to inform the public about the achievements of government innovation," and added, "We hope that the Smart Gangwon Urban Safety Service, a representative excellent case of Gangwon Province, will spread nationwide and become a leading example of government innovation in Korea."
