Efforts to Prevent Serious Accidents for Companies... Achieving Reduction in Serious Accident Incidents
Yangsan City in Gyeongnam reported that the number of serious accident incidents at local companies has sharply decreased this year due to the serious accident prevention consulting project.
In fact, a total of 6 serious accident cases occurred in Yangsan City in 2023, but the number has decreased to 3 so far in 2024, showing a positive effect on serious accident prevention.
Yangsan City actively conducted various support and consulting projects to prevent serious industrial accidents by accepting applications for consulting participation from local companies struggling to independently establish safety and health management systems under the Serious Accident Punishment Act.
The main purpose of this project is to help local small and medium-sized enterprises establish safety and health management systems on their own to prevent serious accidents. Following 21 companies last year, 18 companies are receiving consulting this year as well. In particular, this consulting has proven effective in preventing serious accidents by providing more systematic and practical methodologies based on past experience.
The consulting project involves industrial safety management specialists designated by the Ministry of Employment and Labor visiting companies directly to guide executives and employees. The main contents include strengthening executive leadership, expanding worker participation, identifying and eliminating risk factors, substitution and control, establishing emergency action plans, securing safety and health during subcontracting and outsourcing, and evaluating and improving safety and health management systems.
These contents reflect a continuous commitment to preventing serious accidents and contributed to securing a sustainable management system by providing manuals that can be immediately applied on-site rather than simple consultation.
A Yangsan City official stated, “Through continuous interest and efforts in serious accident prevention, we will secure the safety of workers at local companies and accelerate the establishment of an image as a city favorable for business.” He added, “As part of these efforts, we plan to continue the serious accident prevention consulting project next year.”
