"Bamboo Tourism Revitalization... Excellent Carbon Reduction"
"Sister City" Exchange and Cooperation Project with Yibin City, China
On the 9th, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will promote a support project for bamboo pulp paper cups manufactured in Yibin City, Sichuan Province, China, targeting food service establishments in the area.
This project is one of the exchange and cooperation initiatives with Yibin City, which has a sister city agreement with Damyang-gun, and was promoted to foster friendly cooperation and mutual development between the two cities.
On the 7th, the county completed the import of 250,000 paper cups and lids through the formal customs clearance process of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. The paper cups and lids will be provided to local restaurants, cafes, and other retail stores, and the Damyang-gun Tourism Division is currently accepting applications from businesses wishing to use them.
The paper cups and lids produced in Yibin City are made from bamboo pulp, and their design incorporates bamboo, which symbolizes Damyang. Bamboo has a higher photosynthetic efficiency compared to other pulp woods, absorbing more carbon dioxide from the air and thus reducing carbon emissions. Containers made from bamboo pulp do not emit harmful substances when buried or incinerated, making them excellent for carbon reduction.
County Governor Lee Byeong-no said, “We will support bamboo paper cups to cafes that use many disposable products in the area to achieve carbon neutrality, and furthermore, make it a representative tourism item of our county.” He added, “We will continue to strive to create a food culture where residents and tourists can enjoy safely and cleanly.”
