The Department of Emergency Medical Services at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President Kim Young-do) conducted an "On-site Specialized Maritime First Aid Training" program at Songjeong Beach on the 21st of last month.
This training was organized to provide students with practical opportunities to learn first aid and rescue techniques in marine accident situations. A realistic environment was created to enhance the ability to respond to various emergency situations that may occur at sea.
During the training, students practiced first aid and rescue skills in a simulated marine accident scenario. Developed by Paramedic Professor Park Jun-young of the Korea Coast Guard Academy, this program aims at the rescue and transport of patients with spinal injuries at sea and is designed to allow students to apply various emergency rescue techniques and train their judgment in teams.
Paramedic Professors Yoo Yeon-jae and Park Jun-young, dispatched from the Korea Coast Guard Academy, along with senior students holding water safety qualifications, participated as safety officers to guide students in safely practicing various techniques and building confidence.
Professor Yoo Yeon-jae of the Department of Maritime Rescue (Paramedic) at the Korea Coast Guard Academy emphasized the importance of this training, stating, "As marine accidents increase, it is crucial not only for coast guard officers but also for responders at maritime first aid scenes to improve their on-site response capabilities tailored to the unique nature of the environment. Through this training, students were able to experience rescue, first aid, and transport techniques adapted to real conditions."
Park Young-soo, head of the Department of Emergency Medical Services at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, said, "This training greatly helped students develop their ability to respond to actual marine accident situations and cultivate practical emergency rescue skills in maritime environments. Through this course, students were able to significantly enhance their creative problem-solving skills necessary for future maritime emergency rescue."
Satisfaction surveys and post-training meetings will be conducted to analyze the program's outcomes, and on-site focused educational programs will be continuously operated to foster professionals with expertise.
The Department of Emergency Medical Services at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology achieved a 100% pass rate on the national qualification exam for all graduates this year and continues to strengthen major courses tailored to field duties and develop curricula in collaboration with field experts, aiming to train emergency medical professionals.
