Invigorating Local Economy by Hosting National Competitions such as Triathlon and Park Golf
The '2024 Goryeong-gun Subae Daegaya National Triathlon Competition,' held on the 3rd at Dasan Cultural Park in Goryeong-gun, concluded successfully.
Hosted and organized by the Goryeong-gun Triathlon Association and the Goryeong-gun Sports Council, this event was the first triathlon competition held in Goryeong-gun, attracting about 1,000 triathlon enthusiasts from top-level men's and women's groups as well as domestic adult clubs, who competed fiercely.
The triathlon is one of the most challenging and grueling sports, consisting of swimming, cycling, and running. The swimming segment starts with a diving start and must be completed within 50 minutes; cycling must be finished within 2 hours and 30 minutes from the start of the swimming; and running must be completed within 3 hours and 30 minutes from the start of the race.
This competition applied the Olympic international standard course (swimming 1.5 km, cycling 40 km, marathon 10 km), but the swimming distance was shortened to 0.75 km on the day of the event due to fog.
The course included swimming in the Nakdong River, cycling along the riverside area, and running through the famous ginkgo tree forest in Dasan-myeon, allowing triathletes to continue their challenge of pushing human limits amidst the beautiful autumn scenery of Goryeong-gun.
The Goryeong-gun Tourism Council conducted a 'Daegaya Tourism Tour' for about 2,000 triathletes and their families gathered from across the country, actively promoting Goryeong's historical culture through the sports event and striving to revitalize tourism.
On the day, Son Chang-hyung, the event preparation chairman, generously donated 5 million won to the education development fund for local education.
After the competition, various foods such as boiled pork, Makgeolli, and pizza were provided for the finishers and their cheering families, followed by a triathlon karaoke contest and an awards ceremony, receiving applause from participants.
Lee Nam-cheol, the mayor of Goryeong-gun, said, "As the athletes have prepared diligently for a long time to fully demonstrate their skills, I hope the triathletes achieve good results without any safety accidents," and added, "I deeply thank all those involved, including volunteers, who worked hard for this event."
Jeon Hae-myeong, president of the Goryeong-gun Triathlon Association, expressed, "The passionate challenges and energy of the triathletes have made Goryeong-gun more vibrant," and stated his ambition, "We will make the triathlon competition safer to serve as an important opportunity for Goryeong to leap forward as a sports city."
Goryeong-gun is actively implementing tourism revitalization policies through sports marketing, such as attracting consecutive national competitions by leveraging well-established local sports infrastructure.
