Gyeongnam National University Holds 'Siwolje' to Commemorate the 45th Anniversary of the Buma Democratic Uprising

A Variety of Cultural Festivals to Enjoy the Romance of Autumn
Featuring a Special Performance by Singer Ssaibeogeu

The ‘2024 Academic Year Siwolje’ event commemorating the 45th anniversary of the Buma Democratic Uprising, organized by the Central Autonomous Organization and the student councils of the colleges at Gyeongnam National University, was held on October 31 at the Grand Sports Field.

Running until December 4, Siwolje is an event commemorating the 45th anniversary of the Buma Democratic Uprising, which took place mainly in Busan and Masan. It has been held annually to recall the passionate spirit and noble ideals of October 16, 1979.


This commemorative festival was organized as a celebration by four colleges: Humanities and Social Sciences, Business, Engineering, and AI·SW. It featured a variety of cultural festivities to enjoy the campus romance, including stage performances, experience booths, night markets, food trucks, and street karaoke. The event ran from 4 p.m. until late at night to allow students to honor the Buma Democratic Uprising.


On December 6, the Club Union will hold Siwolje at the Hanma Hall Auditorium; on the 7th, the College of Education at the Grand Sports Field; on the 11th, the College of Public Talent at Hanma Hall Auditorium; and on the 13th, the College of Health and Welfare at Hanma Hall Auditorium.


On December 4, Siwolje organized by the Student Council will be held at Hanma Hall Auditorium. The event will conclude the commemorative festival with a variety of cultural activities, singing contests, dance performances, and a stage performance by invited singer Cyburger.


Student Council President Park Gang-ju said, “We prepared Siwolje to inherit the noble spirit of our seniors and commemorate the Buma Democratic Uprising here at Gyeongnam National University, the birthplace of the uprising.”


Dean of Student Affairs Kim Chang-yoon stated, “I hope that Siwolje will be an event where all Hanma members eternally remember the victims of the Buma Democratic Uprising.”
