"Targeting Low-Cost Niche Market with Price-Performance Ratio"

According to industry sources on the 1st, Motorola plans to release the 'Motorola Edge 50 Fusion' as an unlocked phone in early 2025. Although it is already sold overseas in the 400,000 to 500,000 KRW range, it is expected to be priced around 400,000 KRW in Korea. A Motorola representative stated, "We are launching the product at a slightly lower price than overseas for Korean consumers."

According to the Motorola website, the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion will be available in three colors: Forest Blue, Hot Pink, and Marshmallow Blue, and is equipped with a 5000mAh battery. Its dimensions are 161.9×73.1×7.9 mm (width × height × thickness), and it weighs 174.9g. It supports a 50-megapixel rear camera and a 32-megapixel front camera.

Foreign manufacturers are releasing phones targeting the mid-to-low price market. While demand for premium high-end phones released by Apple and Samsung Electronics remains high, these companies appear to be aiming for niche markets. Xiaomi also launched a low-cost phone, the 'Redmi 14C,' priced in the 100,000 KRW range in mid-April.

An official from A-Route, Xiaomi's official partner, said, "Although the phone was released recently and sales figures are still being compiled, reviews show many positive comments regarding price-to-performance ratio," adding, "Since there are no other manufacturers offering phones in the 100,000 KRW range, this targets niche markets such as secondary phones and student phones." Motorola also released the Edge 40 Neo in the 300,000 KRW range in March this year.

However, it is uncertain how effective the low-price strategy will be. Although low-cost phones have been released recently, there has been no noticeable change in market share yet. According to market research firm Counterpoint Research, in the second quarter of this year, Samsung Electronics held 76% of the domestic smartphone market share, Apple held 22%, and other manufacturers accounted for only about 2%.
