Jeonbuk "Lowering Unit Price for Supplying 'Antibiotic-Free Livestock Products' to Pregnant Women"

Promise to Supply Fresh and Safe Eco-Friendly Ingredients
Preparing Customized Support through Preliminary Demand Survey

The Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province will conduct a preliminary demand survey by the 15th of next month to adjust the unit price of the 'Eco-friendly Agricultural Products Package Project for Pregnant Women' for next year.

According to Jeonbuk Province on the 30th, this survey targets mothers who gave birth after January 1 of this year and pregnant women. The purpose is to reasonably procure by predicting the exact demand for next year in advance and negotiating the supply unit prices of eco-friendly agricultural products, organic processed foods, and antibiotic-free livestock products.

In this year's project, items, unit prices, and quality were regularly monitored every two months, but there were difficulties in adjusting the supply unit price of antibiotic-free livestock products.

In fact, this year, eco-friendly agricultural products (such as vegetables) were supplied at an average of 12% lower prices than e-commerce. On the other hand, antibiotic-free livestock products (such as beef, pork, and eggs) were provided at an average of 15.5% higher prices than e-commerce. This is understood to be a structural factor caused by the grade differences of antibiotic-free livestock products and the limited demand base (2,652 pregnant women).

Accordingly, the province plans to supply high-quality antibiotic-free livestock products to pregnant women at more reasonable prices next year through prior consultation with suppliers.

Meanwhile, the support amount for the pregnant women’s package is 480,000 KRW per person annually this year, of which the self-payment portion is 20%, amounting to 96,000 KRW. The Jeonju Food Support Center and Gunsan Food Integrated Support Center are responsible for supply, providing fresh and safe ingredients to pregnant women in the province.

Choi Jae-yong, Director of the Agriculture, Life Science and Livestock Industry Bureau, stated, "We will do our best to adjust the unit price of antibiotic-free livestock products through the preliminary demand survey and provide them at prices more competitive than e-commerce."
