Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 29th that through the 2024 Living Wage Deliberation Committee review, the "2025 Dongdaemun-gu Living Wage" has been set at 11,779 KRW.
This amount is 343 KRW (3.0%) higher than this year's Dongdaemun-gu living wage of 11,436 KRW.
The "living wage" refers to a wage system calculated to supplement the minimum wage system so that workers can enjoy a minimum standard of humane and cultural living.
The district established the Living Wage Ordinance in July 2015 and has been implementing the living wage since 2016.
The approved "2025 Dongdaemun-gu Living Wage" is 1,749 KRW higher than next year's minimum wage of 10,030 KRW. When converted to a monthly salary based on the statutory working hours of 209 hours, it amounts to 2,461,811 KRW, which is 365,541 KRW more than the minimum wage of 2,096,270 KRW.
It will be applied from January 1, 2025, and the target group includes "fixed-term workers" affiliated with Dongdaemun-gu, Dongdaemun-gu Facilities Management Corporation, and funded or supported institutions.
Living wage does not apply to private consignment workers or temporary workers funded by government ministries and Seoul City.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, "We will strive to provide reasonable wages to ensure the livelihood stability and welfare improvement of fixed-term workers, who are reliable supporters of public officials."
