On the 28th, Gwangju City announced that it will continue to remove illegal apartment sale banners that damage the streetscape and threaten pedestrian safety until the end of this year, in cooperation with the five autonomous districts.
The city plans to impose fines per banner for illegal apartment sale banners posted without permission or notification, and in cases of multiple banners, it will take additional measures such as increased fines and filing complaints against related parties including the developers. Additionally, together with the five autonomous districts, a joint inspection team will operate to establish a continuous maintenance system regardless of weekdays, holidays, day or night, actively responding to prevent the proliferation of illegal banners.
In January, the city established a special maintenance plan that expanded the scope of fines by applying a zero-tolerance policy for illegal banners. As of the 1st of last month, the joint inspection team has removed 118,600 cases, which is an 80% decrease compared to 613,672 cases during the same period last year.
Park Geumhwa, Director of the Architecture and Streetscape Division of Gwangju City, said, “Although illegal banners have significantly decreased since the implementation of the special maintenance, illegal apartment sale banners have recently increased during weekends and holidays. We will focus on inspection and maintenance to ensure there are no issues with the urban landscape and citizen safety, and do our best to create a pleasant city.”
