Namdong-gu, Incheon, is holding the '2024 Namdong Light Street Festival' from this month until February next year.
Namdong Light Street is a project to create a light street reflecting local characteristics to revitalize the local commercial district and improve the nightscape. Last year, it was held at Mansu Covered Stream, Seochang 2 District Roundabout, and Ganseok-dong Juniper Rest Area and Aehyang Children's Park.
This year, Mansu 3 District was newly added as a target area, creating landscape lighting and photo zones in a total of four zones. Previously, the district held busking cultural performances to commemorate the creation of Namdong Light Street at Mansu Covered Stream Moraenae Children's Park on the 22nd and 23rd, and at Mansu 3 District on the 25th.
For the Light Street Festival, the district held resident meetings with the residents' autonomy committees, merchants' associations, and neighborhood leaders' councils of Guwol 4-dong, Mansu 5-dong, and Mansu 6-dong to share opinions on the direction of the event. Subsequently, reflecting residents' opinions, nightscapes and photo zones highlighting the characteristics of each area were created, and cultural content such as performances by local artists was further enhanced.
In particular, the landscape facilities were designed to be sustainable, focusing on expressing nightscapes without damaging green spaces and trees. Mansucheon was differentiated with a design that preserves the fact that it was an area where an old stream used to flow.
The district plans to maintain the landscape lighting, including photo zones, after the festival for year-round operation and conduct regular safety inspections.
Park Jong-hyo, Mayor of Namdong-gu, said, "I hope that families, friends, and couples will create happy memories at the newly renovated Namdong Light Street, and that the cultural performances held throughout the area will bring vitality to their tired daily lives."
